Camp Atterbury, IN – Home of New Veterans Medical Facility

A new veterans medical facility is the first of its kind in the state. The Wakeman VA Clinic at Camp Atterbury offers primary medical care, physical therapy, mental health assessments and technology-based, long-distance clinical health care.

Govatterburyernor Mike Pence, along with representatives from the Indiana National Guard and the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, cut the ribbon on the clinic Wednesday. The clinic spans about 10,000 square feet between two facilities with a goal of alleviating the Roudebush VA Center and providing an additional option for veteran care.

“I’m thankful today to dedicate the Wakeman VA Clinic at Camp Atterbury to allow greater access to health care for our veterans,” said Pence. “This clinic offers an additional location for our veterans in southern Indiana and the surrounding areas to receive the care they need. Our heroes have fought for our freedoms, and deserve the utmost care when they return home. The Wakeman VA Clinic will provide this care to our veterans, and will do it closer to home.”

The clinic is the result of a partnership between the Indiana National Guard and the Roudebush VA. Both groups aim to improve outpatient access by reducing drive times and building closer patient/provider relationships.

“It has been said that the measure of society is reflected on how it takes care of its veterans,” said Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Courtney P. Carr. “This facility will continue to solidify our commitment to the care, welfare and well-being of those who have worn the cloth of our nation. Our service members deserve the very best health care. By allowing the VA to use Camp Atterbury’s facilities, veterans in the southern Indiana region can receive medical services closer to their homes and have access to more personalized care in
a community based facility.”

Officials say the clinic plans to add services in the coming months, including optometry, ophthalmology, audiology and general X-rays.va
