Blue Star Mothers Has New Chapter In Greentown Indiana
Greentown — An affiliate of a national support group for mothers with children in the military has begun meeting in Greentown.
Hoosier Heartland Blue Star Mothers received approval in April to be an official affiliate of the national nonprofit, said Renee Elson, the chapter’s president.
Group members meet 6:30 p.m. the second Monday of every month at the Masonic Lodge in Greentown, 617 E. Payton St.
Hoosier Heartland will join North Central Blue Star Mothers of Indiana in covering the area. The latter chapter is based in Kokomo, while Hoosier Heartland focuses on attracting members from eastern Howard County and Grant, Tipton and Madison counties.
Elson, whose son has served in the U.S. Army, said the Hoosier Heartland chapter has five members so far, which is the necessary number to be a formal chapter. Two members are pending.
Blue Star mothers is a national organization that supports mothers and step-mothers whose children serve in the military. Along with discussions of children and families, members use meetings to plan philanthropic activities in their communities.
