Kokomo Veteran Project Receives Large Grant!

Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight has announced that the Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority awarded the Family Service Association (FSA) of Howard County a $2.5 million grant for the development of Jackson Street Commons. The facility will be a new supportive housing complex for homeless veterans in Kokomo and central Indiana.

“I am extremely pleased that Jackson Street Commons was awarded this funding,” said Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight. “This project will provide critically needed resources for our most vulnerable veterans who have already sacrificed so much for our nation. In addition to providing much needed housing, residents will also receive important individualized support services.”

FSA partnered with the City of Kokomo along with other community organizations to secure funding, provide social services and update the site’s infrastructure needs.

“We’re happy to be part of a community that wants to give back to those who have given and sacrificed for us,” said Judy Dennis, FSA Executive Director. “Jackson Street Commons will be one of the first permanent and supportive housing projects in Indiana for homeless veterans.”

A groundbreaking ceremony for Jackson Street Commons at 322 E. Jackson St. is scheduled for July and plans call for a grand opening in May 2013.
