Contribute to Kokomo’s Disabled American Veterans Chapter by Eating!
We have to eat…might as well be for a great cause!
For the 2nd year, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 28 is partnering with Ruby Tuesday for give-back days. Ruby Tuesday restaurant manager Matthew Kenison said he is happy to continue the partnership.“I’m a veteran myself, so I think it’s really important the community helps care for veterans. They gave a lot of their time, and I think it’s important that we give a little back to them,” he said.
By eating at Ruby Tuesday on Thursdays through the end of February, the restaurant will give back 20 percent of the customer’s purchase to the DAV. To participate, customers need to present a flyer to their server (see link below)
Rex Ritchie, first junior vice commander of DAV Chapter 28, said the funds that are raised will make a difference in the lives of many veterans. “We want to replenish our funds to help veterans throughout the year,” he said. The funds in the Veterans’ Assistance Project go to help veterans should needs and difficulties arise—something of which Ritchie said there is no shortage. “We’ve had this past year veterans who have returned from Iraq and Afghanistan, and we’ve helped them out financially to help them get settled back in. Then at Christmas time, there were airmen who had just been deployed, and we donated money to sponsor a Christmas party for their families so their families could still have a nice Christmas,” Ritchie said.
Another example Ritchie gave was the DAV help a veteran last year who returned from Afghanistan to have his car break down. The chapter helped him get it fixed and put him in contact with the right people to help him get back in the work force. Another member returned without a leg, and the DAV donated to help him purchase a prosthetic, he said. “It’s just a real simple fund raiser. You come in and eat at Ruby Tuesday, and if you show the flyer, they will donate 20 percent of your ticket. We’re not really hitting you up for a donation; we’re asking you to come eat and let them donate a percentage of your ticket,” he said.
Ruby Tuesday is located at 515 E. Southway Blvd. To make a reservation, call 453-0369 or visit rubytuesday.com.
“I had one lady last week give us a $300 check,” Baumfalk said. “We just need to get the word out to people that we have to buy these vans.”
Dates of the Ruby Tuesday Community Giveback Program for the DAV are Jan. 8, 15, 22 and 29 and Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 26. Customers who show their server the DAV flyer will receive a 20 percent discount off meals and the proceeds will go toward the DAV van fund.

can not open the DAV flyer for Ruby Tuesday
Sorry Don, that link was a third party link that we don’t control. I just tried it too and it no longer works so Ruby Tuesday must have taken it down. We posted this article a few weeks ago so it must have expired. Sorry!
